Topic 83 of 84: Is Jane Eyre a masochist?

Wed, Aug 16, 2006 (22:07) | Miss Eyre (thornfield)
In chapter 17, Jane draws a watercolor portrait of Blanche, based on the descriptions of Mrs. Fairfax, and a chalk portrait of herself. In comparing herself to Blanche, she wants to discipline her feelings, to let reason rule over passion, thinking her love wouldn´t be returned anyway. Now, is this a moment of emotional strenght? or is Jane a masochist?
